These "dark" cocoa-infused Elisenlebkuchen have long been a traditional Christmas pastry at Lebkuchen Schmidt.

They actually came about by chance: the founder of Lebkuchen-Schmidt, E. Otto Schmidt, poured fine cocoa into the bowl of gingerbread dough. He tried this new mixture and found it so delicious that he added dark Elisen rounds to the assortment.

These gingerbread cookies with a delicate cocoa flavor are simply delicious! Full of delicious nuts, covered in crunchy chocolate and baked on oblaten wafers. Quite simply the classic in mini format!
