Schwartau "Rote Gruetze" (lit. red grits) is a Northern German dessert specialty, made with 50% fruit (red currant, black currant, raspberries, rhubarb) black cherries and thickened with pectin. Topped with vanilla sauce, "Rote Grütze" is simultaneously sweet & tart, a refreshing after-dinner treat, or just between meals.
