Riegelein’s classic Advent calendar contains 65g (2.6 oz) of fine milk chocolate with 30% cocoa, presented in colorful Christmas artwork featuring St. Nicholas (St. Nikolaus).
The St. Nicholas theme also reflects an important German Christmas tradition. Unlike the American Santa Claus, St. Nicholas is traditionally portrayed as a bishop, with his mitre and bishop’s staff, and is celebrated in Germany on December 6, St. Nicholas Day (Nikolaustag). Children traditionally leave their cleaned shoes or boots out the night before, hoping St. Nicholas will fill them with chocolates, nuts, oranges and other treats. Riegelein is particularly known for keeping this tradition alive with its authentic chocolate St. Nicholas figures as well as its festive Advent chocolates.
