Hengstenbergs Altmeister is a full-bodied red wine vinegar, based on a proprietary, classic blend of brandy vinegar (German: Branntwein) and rich red wines, spices and herbs. It is naturally fermented and perfect for classic salads, such as potato salad, bologna salad (German: Wurstsalad), lettuce and endives, as well as lamb and game dishes.
Hengstenberg, was founded in 1867 by Richard Alfried Hengstenberg who was known for his knack quality and became a co-author of the 'vinegar purity law' enacted in 1876 which is still part of today's official food standards law. Today, the company offers a wide variety of pickled products and condiments, all known for the highest quality in the market.

The German vinegar
Our family loves this vinegar. My mother-in-law who is originally from Germany introduced the product to me. It’s been a staple in our home ever since.

Hengstenberg Seasoned Altmeister Vinegar
Everyone loves my salad dressing--a basic vinaigrette--and I know it is because I make it with Hengstenberg Seasoned Altmeister Vinegar, an excellent vinegar! My grocery store has not been able to get it anymore so I was very happy to be able to order it from The Taste of Germany.
