In 1922, 29 year old German candy maker Hans Riegel introduced a revolutionary new product to candy fans in his native Bonn: the gummy bear. Haribo also features a number of well-known Rhineland licorice treats, such as Katinchen licorice cats (a nod to the famous Katjes licorice cats).
